In June, 2008, Toyobo and DSM Dyneema (Head office: The Netherlands, President : Christophe Dardel) made the decision to expand production capacity for "Dyneema®", ultra high strength polyethylene fiber. Nippon Dyneema Co., Ltd.(Head office : Osaka/ Japan, President : Sumio Yasuda) is the joint venture of Toyobo and DSM Dyneema.

1.Background
Main applications of "Dyneema®" in Japan are ropes, fishing lines, gloves and helmets. Owing to steady domestic demand, Toyobo has increased its sales' volume for the past few years.
On the other hand, the yarn production capacity has become 1,600 metric ton/year since January, 2008 when one new line was added to the existing ones; but this will not be nearly enough to fulfill the demand, based on our forecasts.
In order to respond to this strong demand, Nippon Dyneema Co., Ltd. has recently made a decision to enlarge its yarn production capacity by 1,600 metric ton/year.
2.Outline of the new line
(1) Plant site : Toyobo Tsuruga Plant (Tsuruga City, Fukui Prefecture)
(2) Production capacity :
2 lines 1,600 metric ton/year
Total capacity : 3,200 metric ton/year at full production

(3) Investment amount : Approximately 5 billion Japanese yen
(4) Start-up : February, 2010
*“Dyneema®” is a registered trademark in Japan.
