Toyobo is well-known as one of the world's foremost textile manufacturers. At present, we are actively involved in a wide range of areas that include films, electronics materials, bio-medical materials, and industrial materials. We have sales points worldwide and production sites in many countries and areas around the world, the most being in Asia.

We launched the polyester business in the early 1960's and it still accounts for more than half of our business. We make a full range of polyester materials such as fibers including textiles and industrial fibers, resins for bottles and sheets, films for packaging and industrial films, engineering plastics, and coatings. Toyobo and its affiliates are one of the major suppliers of industrial fibers worldwide and resins for bottles in Japan. We also offer many kinds of specialty films and textiles. In addition to polyethylene terephthalate, we offer a wide range of polyesters including various kinds of co-polymerized polyesters. And, we have the means and skills to design the catalysts to meet various demands in different fields.

Catalysts and their mechanisms have been studied at Toyobo since the beginning of the industrial introduction of polyester. We have worked with antimony, titanium, and germanium catalysts in the commercial production of polyester, and even now we select and use these three catalysts in accordance with purpose. We have, therefore, accumulated a lot of knowledge on these catalysts and other kinds of metal compounds. Based on these experiences, we have created new catalyst technology.
